SIGNIFICANT LANDMARKS IN THE HISTORY OF ”GEORGE BARITIU” TECHNICAL COLLEGE, BAIA MARE

George Bariţiu”Technical College is located in Baia Mare city, the capital of Maramures county. The high school was established in 1974 having as main goal the training of qualified personnel in electronics for the field of telecommunications required by the County Administrations of Postal Services and Telecommunications in the counties of Maramures, Satu Mare, Salaj, Bistrita Nasaud and Bihor.The high school building is centrally located, in Culturii Street number 8 and provides a variety of facilities for educational purposes as well as practical training.

1974: The year the school was established under the name of The High School of Electronics for Telecommunications Baia Mare subordinate to The Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications until 1990.

1976: The Proffessional School of Telecommunications started students’ training.The name of the school changed to The Industrial High School number 4 Baia Mare. The students’ selection was based on an admission exam, each county in the proximity of Maramures (Satu Mare, Sălaj, Bistriţa Năsăud and Bihor) having a designated number of students.

1978: The first generation of sudents took the baccalaureate exam and got jobs in the domain of Postal Service and Telecomminications in the respective counties.

1990: The school was subordinate to The Ministry of Education and functioned under the name of The High School of Post and Telecommunications Baia Mare. The Post-High School Technical School of Telecommunications was established. Since then, the students’ qualifications have been carried out on three levels: high school, vocational school and post- high school.

1993: After 1989 the labour market changed substantially , so our high school diversified the educational offer by adding classes in the domain of electronics.

2000: It is the year when the high school got the name Technical High School „George Bariţiu” Baia Mare and more classes studying the domain of electronics were added to the educational offer.

2002: The school got a grant from the European Union through the Phare program Ro 0108.01; Phare Ro 0108.03 Economic and Social Cohesion- Technical and Vocational Education.This helped the school achieve the building rehabilitation, the suply with up-to-date equipment necessary in the educational process for all the domains taught in school, for students, as well as for teachers’ proffessional development. It is the year when the student Erdei Rudolf won the National Olimpics in Electronics, thus confirming the high reputation of our school.

2004: The AeL computer network system was installed which led to the e- Learning teaching system use in all classes.

2007: The High School got the status of technical college, thus changing its name into „George Bariţiu” Technical College Baia Mare.

2008: The high school organised the national stage of the Technical Interdisciplinary Olympics in the domains of electronics, telecommunications, automation.The students of our high school got 4 first prizes.

In the autumn of the same year, The Documentation and Information Center of the high school was inaugurated, being established with the financial support of the Ministry of Education.

2010: „George Bariţiu” Technical College Baia Mare organised the first edition of the National Contest of English Language “Quest” and the first edition of the National Symposium ”Interferenţe”.It is the year when the school got the first title of ’Eupean School’as a recognition of its high educational standards.

2011: The educational partnerships with schools from Europe were promoted through Comenius and Leonardo da Vinci projects.

2012: The improvement in the quality of educational and professional training was attained through partnership networks, active partnership (school-companies) by implementing 2 POS DRU projects.

2013: Our high school organised the national stage of the Technical Interdisciplinary Olympics for the second time and the students got 2 second prizes. It is the year when the school won for the second time the title of European School- the 15h place at the national level and the 1st place at the local level.

2014: The first national edition of the contests “Start your business! The top of the young entrepreneurs” and “Modern Perspectives in the Technological Education” had our school as organizer.

2010-2012: „How different are we? – project in partnership with schools from Spain, Italy, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania şi Turkey.

2012-2014: „To study or to work? To stay or to emigrate?” – project in partnership with a school from Latvia

2013-2015:„Learn to learn! Develop your autonomy in learning!” – project in partnership with schools from Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, France, and Latvia..

2011-2013: „Microcontroller applications in vocational education” – project in partnership with schools from Spain, Italy, Bulgaria, Austria, Slovenia, Belgium şi Turkey.

2011-2012: „Formarea de noi competenţe profesionale în meseria de tehnician electronist” – project in partnership with an institution in Germany.

2013-2015: “Ivet-Venture: A participative approach to strengthen key competences of trainees” – project in partnership with institutions from Germany, Austria, Turkey and Romania.
